It was during the AFC Asian Cup Doha 2011 that Subrata Paul was nicknamed ‘Spiderman’ by the international media. Barely 24, he was dubbed as “one of the best in Asia”.

Subrata’s journey with the National Team began in 2007 when he played a stellar role to help India win the Nehru Cup for the first time ever. The following year he was an integral part of India’s AFC Challenge Cup triumph, for which he was landed the 2009 AIFF Player of the year Award – the first, also the sole goalkeeper to have won it so far.
